I have closed a chapter this week, a very meaningful chapter.
After six years of working for Baptist Health, I have said my goodbyes. My work friends have become family, so my goodbye wasn’t really to the people but to the job.
Change is hard. Perhaps that’s why I’ve sat in front of this computer screen for 30 minutes trying to figure out what to say.
Letting go of a good thing to gain a different good thing is bittersweet.
I’m looking into the next chapter with excitement, anticipation, and a few butterflies. There are so many encounters, prayers and tears that have led me to this point. More than anything, I have tried to approach this opportunity with caution, to make sure I didn’t make a quick emotional decision. But as things have played out over the past year, it has become clear that this is where I should go.
Alpha Alternative Pregnancy Care Center is a Christian based organization that has served Hopkinsville, Kentucky and surrounding areas for 26 years. They provide a variety of services, including pregnancy tests, pregnancy education, parenting classes, material support to new moms, and abstinence programs in the schools. All services are free. This organization has always been funded by a faithful community of people and organizations who recognize its value.
One of the best programs this organization offers (in my opinion) is the counseling after pregnancy loss or abortion. The heart of Alpha is to show the love of Christ to all without passing judgment. Many of the people working with Alpha (including staff and volunteers) have experienced loss from miscarriage or abortion, and they are equipped with knowledge of how to help people find healing from years of pain.
Alpha has recently received its license to be a medical clinic. I don’t know exactly how things will change, but I know this will mean an expansion of services. The biggest change as of right now is the new mobile clinic, an RV which will be traveling to different areas offering pregnancy tests and ultrasounds. Once a week, the clinic will be parked close to an abortion clinic in Nashville. Women will be invited on for free ultrasounds and information. There will be no manipulation of any sort, simply answered questions and options. The ladies on board will also be able to set clients up with services provided by Alpha in Hopkinsville, adoption services or doctor appointments, depending on the needs.
I am thrilled to tell to you I will be the one providing the ultrasounds. I will soon be traveling for a couple weeks of training.
I am completely humbled with the chance to be a part of this ministry and to work with the incredible staff who have been faithfully working since before I had even heard of Alpha.
Please pray for the staff and volunteers.
I ask for you to pray for me as I join their team, that I will show the love of Christ to all, no matter the circumstances or decisions. I pray that I will keep a close eye on my own heart, that I will keep a grateful, humble, nonjudgmental attitude. I pray that I will be even more encouraged to stay grounded in the word of God, as it is a “lamp unto my feet and a light unto my path”.
Pray that Alpha continues to receive the financial support it needs to continue in ministry.
More than anything, pray that we will all have a better understanding of the love that God has for each person, the born and unborn, the one who chooses life and the one who does not.
I will keep you updated as things change and new opportunities arise. If you want more information, check out their website www.alphapcc.org.
Here’s to this new chapter! Thank you for your prayers and support.
